Feng Shui bed directions – North West

The North West is considered the house of the ‘Father’. Sleeping in this direction is considered to be better for older people as it promotes a sound and longer night’s sleep.  Sleeping here will be good if you need respect at work or home, or are having trouble asserting your authority.

Quote for today

Good fortune is lighter than a feather, yet no one knows how to carry it.

Misfortune is heavier than the earth, yet no one knows how to avoid it.

Feng Shui bed directions – West

For romance, or a contented night’s sleep there is no where better than the West. It is an ideal sector for more ‘established’ relationships or for people who do not want a hectic lifestyle. Sleeping here you should certainly have a settled sleep. If you want more motivation or ‘get up and go’ then the West is not for you.

Feng Shui bed directions -South

The south represents Fire. Now, whilst hot may be good for passion it is not beneficial for a good night’s sleep.

If you want to ‘spice up’ a relationship then sleep in the south, just don’t stay there very long or you may find that you are arguing more.  For most people facing the south is too energetic and they don’t feel rested after a nights sleep.

Wave 105 – 26 April

It was lovely to have Andy Jackson back on the show last night. He has been stranded in Spain due to the volcanic ash, but he had a nice extended holiday, has a fabulous tan and is well rested.

We had lots of callers which is always good.  Lynn wanted to know if she should accept a ‘challenge’, Andy was fascinated by this and wanted to know more but Lynn was ‘not spilling the beans’.

It was a great evening, we really had a laugh, and ‘thanks’ to everyone that rang in we really do appreciate your calls.

Feng Shui bed directions – East

The East represents growth and vitality so sleeping with your head pointing in this direction is probably not beneficial if you want a quiet, sedentary life.

Young people will certainly thrive sleeping sleeping in this position, it is also ideal if you want to boost your career what ever age you are, start new projects, or simply put more energy into your life.

Feng Shui bed directions – North East/South West

Sleeping with your head pointing north east is not ideal as you will be on the north east/south west axis. The north east and south west are both governed by Earth and sleeping on this axis can be very unstable (just like earth) for your life and relationships.

Sleeping facing north east may lead to a very unsettled sleep with the possibility of nightmares (not good for young children). Sleeping with your head pointing south west would be more harmonious for relationships as you are sleeping in the section governed by the Mother of the I Ching family, but you may end up being too cautious in life.

Feng Shui for bedrooms

We spend approximately a third of our life in bed!

When sleeping our body heals itself so it is vital to get good quality sleep. Margaret Thatcher may be able to survive on 4 hours a night, but for the rest of us 7 hours is the norm.

My son has trouble going to sleep, but as I say it is his own fault. He watches TV or plays gory games on his Play Station curled up on his bed, he then turns off the light when tired and tries to go to sleep. His brain is then too active and the room is charged with magnetic energy from the electrical equipment so I tell him the following:

  • Unplug everything before going to sleep, leaving it on standby all night is not healthy
  • Go downstairs for a while to let the brain quieten down
  • Leaving the bedroom and returning will make your brain think that you are now ‘going to bed’ and you will be more relaxed

Neutral colours on the walls are best as you don’t want anything too ‘busy’ – you can always introduce colours with fabrics and cushions. Red is for passion, but take care not to overdo it.

Keep the room clear of clutter, don’t leave piles of clothes on the floor, and don’t cram the wardrobe with lots of junk. Girls, remember the 80/20 rule….. we only wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time!

If you have lots of clothes that you want to pack away try using those storage bags where you suck out all of the air and they compress to nothing, they are brilliant and really work.

Some beds have storage drawers underneath – these are ok for linen, but don’t fill with lots of junk as this may disturb your sleep.

I know lots of people have their office in the bedroom because of a lack of space – this is not ideal as your brain thinks you are now in work mode when you go to bed. Try building everything in a wardrobe so it is out of sight.

We all have good and bad facing directions and where you place your bed can have a dramatic effect on how well you sleep. I know in a lot of cases it is not easy because of the way the room is designed, but over the coming days I will explain what effect the various directions may have on your sleeping patterns.

Today we will look at the North direction. Now remember it is where the Crown Chakra – the top of the head is pointing.

Some Chinese call this the ‘death position’ as the north is still and quiet. It can be good if you suffer with insomnia or are in your later years, but for many it will not be suitable. If you find your life has been hectic, or that you have gone through some trauma in your life then moving your bed to this position temporarily may help.

If it’s not broken……

If it’s not broken don’t try and fix it. Ever heard that saying?

Often when I visit friend’s houses I can see so many things wrong; clutter, toilet seat up, Money plant in wrong area but I do nothing…   you see if they are happy and everything in their life is fine why tip the scales?

Although I may live by Feng Shui principals I don’t expect everyone else to do the same.  Feng Shui is all about balance, it shouldn’t be a chore, nor in my opinion should it be done “just in case” as sometimes that can cause more harm than good.

Clients call me in because they normally have a problem in one or more of their ‘life areas’, I will make recommendations and maybe suggest cures or enhancements.  I always advocate that clients start slowly, then tweak as they go along, results can be instant, or it may take a few weeks for things to happen. What is not good is throwing everything including the kitchen sink at a weak area expecting quicker and more amazing results. Your home does not have to look like a Chinese restaurant for you to achieve harmony.

Wave 105- 19 April – Ying & Yang

yin and yang

Yin and Yang are two mutually dependant but opposite types of Chi energy. Nothing is wholly Yin or wholly Yang. If you look at the Yin/Yang symbol you will see a little circle of Yin in the Yang section and a circle of Yang in the Yin section.

Yin is seen as:   Cold, wet, interior, female, dark, passive, slow, still, soft, descending and sedating.

In the home it is:   Fabrics, rugs, carpets & upholstery, curtains, blue/green colours and soft downward lighting.

Yang is seen as:   Hot, dry, exterior, male, light, active, fast, moving, hard, ascending and expanding.

In the home it is:   Marble, stone, hardwood, mirrors, glass, sculptures, blinds, red/orange colours and bright upward lighting.

You should look at attaining a good balance of Yin and Yang in your life, home and business.

Someone kindly sent me the following extract:

Within light there is darkness, but do not try to understand that darkness.
Within darkness there is light, but do not look for that light.
Light and darkness are a pair, like the foot before and the foot behind in walking.
Each thing has its own intrinsic value and is related to everything else in function and position.
Ordinary life fits the absolute as a box and its lid.
The absolute works together with the relative, like two arrows meeting in mid-air.

I think it sums up Yin & Yang perfectly.
