Red 8 Feng Shui Blog – Dowsing

large_crystal_pendulum

Spherical crystals hanging from a window send a wonderful array of colours around any room especially if they catch the sunlight.  Try to buy good quality crystals, Austrian are the best, most have small holes in the top to allow you to suspend them with thread. Crystals will raise energy in a room, I always give mine a little tap as I walk past to keep the light t reflecting.

I took a few of my crystals onto Andy Jackson’s show last night as each week I take in a “show and tell” object.  I also took along one of my dowsing pendulums; Andy was fascinated by the way it moved as soon as he held it.

When buying a pendulum for dowsing the first thing to do it to establish which way it swings, to do this you need to ask it questions. The easiest way to start is by holding the pendulum firmly between index finger and thumb. I ask it “is my Rosie, please answer yes or no” I then watch what way it swings, I then ask “is my name Jan please answer yes or no” and again see what way it swings. From this I can now ask yes or no questions knowing I will get good results.

People use dowsing pendulums for all sorts of things – to find out the answer to problems, missing objects and even people. The British Society of Dowsers run courses for people who want to study the subject further, you can find their details on the web.

Always cleanse your crystals with sea salt first, rinse, and then let it charge outside in sunlight for 4 hours.

Red 8 Feng Shui Blog – Inner Happiness?

I never plan anything in advance – holidays, what I am doing next week, even what I am cooking for tonight’s meal.

Buddha said: The Secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future, or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly. This is probably easier said than done for the majority of people.

I know a lady who years ago told me that she was starting a savings plan as she wanted to take her husband on a cruise for their 25th wedding anniversary – this was when they had been married 12 years, so they still had another 13 to go! Now although the idea was nice, in reality I thought she was mad and told her so – I could not see how anyone could plan 13 years ahead. I remarked that she could walk down the road, look into someone’s eyes and fall madly in love. I was not far off the mark; she met someone at work, left her husband and married the new love of her life…… I have not asked if she is planning another cruise!

So what is it that makes us want to plan so far ahead? And is it a good thing to do? There is the Yiddish proverb:  מענטש טראַכט, גאָט לאַכט. Mentsch tracht, Gott lach -. Man plans, God laughs. Everyone has plans, dreams, hopes, and aspirations, call them what you will – but do we ever truly “get there”, and if we do is it what we actually envisaged, how long did it last, or did life take you off in a totally different direction? Have you ever been truly happy & contented only to see your world fall apart? Yep been there, done that, got the T shirt.

And a whole new subject is “what is happiness”? Is it having money, success, big house, the latest phone or is it simply inner contentment?

So is Buddha right? It is no good looking back, you will never move on unless you can leave the past behind. They say as one door closes another opens – sometimes it’s just hell being stuck in the hallway. It is no good worrying about the future – who knows what life has in store for us but it is certainly no good fretting about it. So today put your trust in the moment – it is hard to do believe me, but have faith and who knows what wonderful joys will come your way.

Red 8 Feng Shui Blog – The Dragon Pearl

When you look at Chinese Dragons they are nearly always holding a pearl in their claw. There is a story that is told of how that came about…

A mother lived with her young son, Xiao Sheng, in a small village. They, like the other villages were very poor and the young boy had to cut grass daily to feed his mother and the animals. The farmland around the village was so dry that the boy had to travel farther and farther from home to enable them to survive.

One day after walking many miles he came upon a lush and fertile area of grass which he cut and took home to his mother. He returned to the same spot of grass the next day and was surprised to find it had re-grown over night. He took more grass home and found in the blades of grass a beautiful pearl. He proudly gave it to his mother, who promptly hid it in a half-empty rice jar.

The next day when they looked into the rice jar it was filled to the top. They then placed the pearl into a jar containing the few coins they possessed. The next morning the coin jar was overflowing, the boy and his mother they knew the pearl was ‘magic’.

Xiao Sheng and his mother decided to share their good fortune with the rest of the village, but suspicions were soon aroused and word of the pearl quickly spread.

Some villagers broke into to the mother’s house and demanded the pearl for themselves. The boy in a panic, and not knowing where to hide the pearl swallowed it. It is said Xiao Sheng turned into a dragon, he then brought much needed rain to the village, and carved a river with his tail before disappearing with his beloved pearl forever.

Red 8 Feng Shui Blog – Foo or Lion Dogs

                                                                           800px-Forbidden_City_Imperial_Guardian_Lions

Foo or Lion Dogs can be traced back thousands of years to the Han Dynasty, they originally protected Buddhist temples as the Lion is very sacred in Buddhist religion. They were also presented as gifts to the Emperors of China.

Foo Dogs can be found guarding & protecting the Forbidden City in Beijing, they are also placed outside banks, businesses, temples and homes in the far east and across the world.

The Dogs should always be displayed as a pair and they should be placed correctly – the female has her paw on her cub, she should be placed to the left of a building as you look at it. The male has his paw on a ball which signifies the world – he should be placed on the right hand side of the property.

I Am Back

Hello my regular readers, sorry I have not been posting for a while.

I put my house in the market in March, it was Feng Shuied to-within an inch of its life and a buyer put an offer in within 12 weeks which is fantastic. They say 6-9 months is the average time a house takes to sell so I was really pleased. So I have been sorting and packing things up. I follow my Feng Shui principles and don’t have “clutter” but I have still managed to take three car loads of “junk” to the tip and have been to my local CRY charity shop twice and I have still not finished!!

I do feel “out of sorts” because a lot of ornaments, crockery etc has been packed so the house does not feel like “home” at the moment. I didn’t think it would affect me that much so I am surprised the effect it has had. A couple of friends gave me 2 huge bouquets and I had to rummage around for ages before I found a vase to put them in. On the “up” side cleaning is a lot easier.

The 7th Lunar month is known as the month of the “Hungry Ghosts” – the acual Ghost Dayfalls on the 15th day which is the 23rd August this year.  It is said that on this day that the gates of Heaven and Hell open up and spirits and ancestors roam around at will.  Many people put “offerings” out for the Ghosts across the month, especially on Ghost Day. This can be in the form of food, drink or incense, it is considered bad luck not to offer something to the Ghosts.
